Q2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

"Reminisce" represents social groups such as young people. It relates back to categories in TV drama such as age, ethnicity and gender.

Representation refers to the construction in media and shows the of aspects of ‘reality’ such as people, places, objects, events, cultural identities and other abstract concepts.

In our film opening we represented social groups such as young people, for example it was clear that the character/victim in our film was a young person (around 16) as she looked young and seemed to be studying before her death. The killer however was supposed to be older, her age ranging from about 18 - 21.

                                                                   The Victim

                                                                     The Killer

Ethnicity: The killer is black and the victim is black. However it isn't part of the story as they are not main representations in films. For example, in many thriller/horror films it is rare for their to be a black on black killing that is the main focus of the film.

Gender: Both character are female, this plays against representation in film or TV Drama as male characters are normally the ones featured doing the killing.

The representation of age in "Reminisce" is complex as we used costume to make Saskie look vulnerable and young and Victoria look aggressive i.e the use of black clothing.
