Evaluation - Prelim (Q7)

Looking back at your preliminary Task what do you feel you have lernt in the progression from it to the full product?

When Creating the preliminary task we were very limited in our skills and so we encountered many hickups and promblems, in comparison to now where we have very few problems.

Mise en scene

For our prelim the mise en scene was very limited, we were uncable to chose a location and instead were given a classroom in collage to work in. This effected our work as it look rather unprofessional, and did not fit the storyline of our scene (a mother telling her child off because of a report). it is very unlikely that in real life this would have happened where we filmed it. With our final thriller opening we were able to chose a location that we wanted and felt fit our theme and scene and was able to put a lot of time and thought into it. We then chose a living room (as that is where our victim was most likely to be) and a small room in collage that were able to decorate and fil with things that made it look more confined and spooky.

Props, Lighting and Costume

The props in our prelim were very, very VERY limited and were simply just some plain papers and for the warning on one, we were only able to hand write it with red pen (which actually looked like scribbles) however in our final opening we were able to gather all the props we needed over time leading up to our filming. including a knife, ketchup, a Polaroid camera. For our scene when the murder in examining the photos we were able to get lots of photos of the victim murder as well as glowing lights to put on the table to make the scene even more thriller looking. the light in our prelim was very basic the the simple fact that the only lighting we had was the lighting in the room. In the opening we were able use portable lights, which made our film clearer and brighter. In the prelim we had no costumes as we were unable to prepare so we just had to act in what we were wearing, but in our thriller opening we planned ahead, and was able to find the right kind of costumes for thriller. The murderer was wearing a black had and long black trench coast, typical for a criminals/murderers in thrillers, and the victim was in comfortable home clothing, because she was at home.

Camera, Editing and Sound

For this the main difference between our opening and the prelim was the skills we had acquired. our camera skill were very basic in the prelim and our shots looked very unprofessional, many of the matches we tried to put together did not match but with our limited time to film there was nothing we could do about it. however with our opening we knew what to do and had cuts that all matched and a verity of shots. The same with our editing, we knew how to edit far more, we were able to slow down and speed up scenes, change the lightings and colouring, with the sound it was just foley however in the final opening we made a whole sound track along with foley.

The storyboard for our work was also far more developed for the thriller opening, we had for (for each scene) and developed them at leaset 3 times each where as for prelim it was one storyboard that was very basic and we had to just make some up as we went along as it did not all go together when we went to film.
