camera skills
during the prelim we learned basic camera skills such a close-up, extreme close ups, mid shots., however during the prelim process we was advised not to zoom during filming because it doesn't look professional. furthermore when it came to the final filming my camera skills had increase, such as i learned about the 180 degree rule on how to keep 2 characters at the center of screen. also we went through the process o learning that holding the camera by can does not give a professional finish, so we aimed to use the tripod majority of the time even if it meant changing the length of the tripod legs.
mise en scene & location
i think in during our prelim for our mise en sene we didn't have much control on how we wanted the surrounding to look and where we wanted to place things because we filmed in a classroom, so we had no option but to just carry on on what was there. in contrast when it came to making our final fim we had more control on ho we wanted things to look and where. unlike the prelim we filmed our movie inside a house, this made it more professional and realistic at the same time because it had everyday equipment.
in our final film with location we had to plan and get permission to use the locations which took time because we needed to be sur that we can re use the location agin if we need to.
lighting
i had no skills or lighting because additional lighting was not needed for our prelim because we was filming outside which already had natural lighting. however we needed additional lighting for our thriller because we was filming inside we needed extra lighting because the room was too dark so it was not clear.
sound
in the prelim stage the only sound we had was dialogue and no background music. however in the final film we had to add background music to match film conventions and to give our audience suspense and create tension. additionally we chose not to add dialogue in the opening because we felt it created suspense and tension for the viewers. equally my skills have improved in adding foley sound to our film because in our prelim we did not add foley sound we just used natural sound.
props and costume
during our prelim stage we was very limited on props because we only used paper, chairs and tables and our costume was not planned. where as for our final video we planned our props and costume. the costume for the killer and the victim had to be planned because it had to be clear to the viewers who the killer and victim was, creating a social group at the same time. for the killer we thought about colours for the clothing, black that signifies evil and dangerous and the victim wearing whit portrays them to be innocent and pure. other props such as the knife, camera and glow knifes was used to set the scene also.
storyboard
for the prelim we made a quick and basic story bard to follow but when it came to filming some parts didn't match because we forgot to include some camera shots. however our story borad for our final film we took time in planning and progressing our story borad making sure everything thing was written down such as camera shots and action. for the final film we progressed 3 story boards including what the pictures would include .
editing
during the editing for them prelim i only basic editing skills such as cutting clips and putting them together. however when it came to making our final film my skills improved, i learned how
- change the colour
- add titles
- change brightness
- split screen
- add music
