Student Openings I Like

39. Claire Elsby. Reece Durham. Thuy Hoang. Dipika Ahmed Nessa from 283goswell on Vimeo.

I think that this opening was good as they explored the conventions of film openings wells. An example of this is at the beginning where "CANDI STUDIOS" is shown. This is effective as it shows the distribution of it as well using font and colour to show the nature of the film. The colours used are white and red. White connotes purity and red connotes danger, this works well as it shows that their film may be a battle between good and bad. The opening also shows their "production team", "SINISTER PRODUCTIONS". This is effective as the font is red and gritty which tells the audience that it is definitely a thriller that may explore elements of horror.

It then shows the directors names, which is typed in the same way the production teams name was. I believe that they achieved making the opening credits look very realistic as they used many features that make the opening piece good. The crew and cast names are also shown after this. All of the credits are feature on a black background. This is effective as it gives the opening a dark and twisted effect making the audience realise what type of film they'll be watching. The transitions from different scenes fade at a fast pace into black. This shows how the films will be.

Also the locations give an effect as it contrasts. The boy sitting on a bench and the unknown person that seems to doing "something evil" creates a sense of dramatic irony as we know what the are doing but he doesn't. The reason why this is effective is because it may effect the boy sitting on the bench.
