Health and Safety

How to safely use the cameras /protect them.

It is important to know this as it ensures that everyone in the groups knows how to operate the cameras and does not damage them as they are costly.

How to use:
  1. Always keep cameras protected from the rain. (For example keep away from rain/moisture to avoid damage)
  2. Treat with care. (Use the cameras in a sensible manner and safe environment)
  3. Always hold correctly with care
  4. Always return camera to college in good condition and on time

Advice on using camera when filming:

  1. Do not zoom and pan the camera during filming because it doesn’t look effective and professional, instead it was suggested that we use various camera shots e.g. close up, long shot etc to give more detail
  2. Check that the camera positioning and at right angle. (For example make sure the actor is mainly in the center of the camera not leaving to much space.)
  3. When filming, make sure the lighting is not to dark. (The position of the actor or mise en scene could affect this)

We were also shown:
  1. How to turn the camera on
  2. How and where to insert memory card in correct slot (A), so our work is saved directly to memory for us to transfer onto hard drive
  3. How to zoom using various functions such as manual zoom or the zoom lever
  4. How to turn the camera from manual to auto
  5. How to set up the tripod with the camera securely in place, by making sure the camera is locked into place onto the tripod. (The tripod is used so filming is more accurate, straight and balanced)
