Student Openings I Like

12. Erika, Nathan, Poppy, Charlene from 283goswell on Vimeo.

This is a Discrete opening as the dream is almost telling a completely separate story.

Good Points :

  1. It has a conventional title sequence where it introduces the production and distribution companies first and then went on to introduce the main people starring in the film.
  2. it borrows a few horror elements which manages to work effectively in adding a more thrilling feeling to the text.
  3. Its had a lot of editing and almsot no dialogue which made it look more professional.
  4. There was plenty of close ups (at the person at the table moving pictures around we didn't see the whole of him we just saw what he was doing. Also we saw lots of close ups of the little girl - eg - her swinging her legs *only the legs were shown* and the blood on the person's hand)
  5. Nearer to the end of the opening the edits become faster cut, but only after we hear a girls voice saying "you did this" automatically insinuating to the audience that was was done was bad also because the girl was being dragged about and there was blood everywhere
  6. The sound used in the opening was very effective as it was almost the perfect sound for a little girl only it has a creepy sense to it which complemented the fact that the little girl was in the woods along covered in a blood stained dress. This clearly reflected the genre of the movie -Thriller. I actually found it quite thrilling. The colour editing (black & white in some scenes) and smooth fading transitions also add to this.
  7. The costumes used by this group was perfect as it was clearly brought/made with the intention of using it for this production, which really managed to bring out a more professional feeling to it, and it did not just look like a opening made by a bunch of students.
