Health and saftey

we had a lesson on how to saftley use the cameras and how to protect them. this was also done to ensure thst everyone in the groups knows how to operate the cameras.

Health & saftey
  • always keep cameras protected from the rain. for example keep away from rain/moisture to avoid damage
  • treat with care. use the cameras in a sensible manner and safe enviroment
  • hold correctly with care
  • return camera to college in good condition and on time

Advice on using camera when filming
  • we were adviced not to zoom and pan the camera during filming becaus it does'nt look effecive and professional, instead it was suggested that we use various camera shots e.g. close up, long shot etc to give more detail
  • check that the camera positioning and at right angle. for example make sure the actor is mainly in the centre of the camera not leaving to much space.
  • when filming make sure the lighting is not to dark. the postion of the actor or mise en scene could affect this
what was taught in the lesson

  • how to turn the camera on
  • how and where to insert memory card in correct slot (A), so our work is saved directly to memory for us to transfer onto hard drive
  • how to zoom using various functions such as manual zoom or the zoom lever
  • how to turn the camera from manual to auto
  • how to set up the tripod with the camera securly in place, by making sure the camera is locked into place onto the tripod. the tridop is used so filming is more accurate, straight and balanced

conventions of film openings

The main coventions that is a consisered in film openings are; what actions will be displayed, the name of the cast ( this can be done with effects and transitions or even apperaing next to the character that they will be playing), the name of the film at he same time the font and size is taken into account so it fits the theme, name of the director and company (this is usally done at the very beginning of the opening, shown with the companies logo), finally music and sounds also introduced in the opening to link appropialy to the theme.

For example 'The unknown'

the opening of this film introduces the film company and directors and editors and edited the film.

gradually the camera pans across the sky showing the sun rise at the same time names of directors, producers and company 'studio canal'.

the camera then zooms into a room showing one of the characters sitting in a darkened room. the film immediatly starts with the acting and story line.
+then the names of the cast is is shown along with the music with same timing using transitions and effects, seconds later the names fade away in the darkness of the room, this could link to the theme an name of the film, leading to an unexplained situation or scenerio.

                                                                        Se7en

The opening of the film "Se7en" starts off with a book flicking open. This connotes that there is a story to be told as it is a book. This could also symbolise that the story may be a mystery as no one in particular is turning the pages.  This also connotes a sense of a crime that is set to be solved. Books also connote a sense of high level of intelligence, this could suggests that a detective will somehow solve a crime.
